Zagreb

Zagreb is an off-season destination right now, so we are able to stay more cheaply at the beautiful 4 star Regent Esplenade, where Pierce Brosnan is reputed to have stayed, than at any of our other stops in Croatia.  And, since they have plenty of empty spaces, they upgrade us two levels, to a beautiful suite.  It's a fine way to start a vacation.

The city, especially Gornji Grad (Old Town) is very charming, filled with old streets and lots of 19th century architecture.  It feels a bit Eastern European, a bit Western European, which makes sense given Croatia's location.

Below: St. Mark's Church (with the colorful roof); cute street in Old Town called Ivana Tkalċića.
